Comhrá 24/7 will be the longest continuous conversation in the Irish language ever held, running from 29 September – 6 October 2013 in a bid to create a conversational world record as part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2013, a year-long festival celebrating 120 years of the revival of Irish.
Comhrá 24/7 will attempt to set a world record for the longest continuous conversation in Irish ever by linking a series of Irish-language conversation circles from around the world throughout the week. Every group will host an hour’s conversation and using the internet, the various Irish-language participants will link up as Comhrá 24/7 streams live on the record attempt’s online page at www.gaeilge2013.ie all the while. The general public can interact with Comhrá 24/7 on Twitter by using the hashtag #comhra247.
Comhrá 24/7 organisers are looking for groups to take responsibility for an hour of conversation (or more), so if you or your local conversation circle would like to contribute to the longest continuous conversation in Irish in the world ever, send the date and time that would suit your group to firstname.lastname@example.org or call +353 (0)1 4757401.
Julian de Spáinn, Bliain na Gaeilge 2013 Coordinator says: "It will be a fantastic achievement if we can host the longest non-stop conversation as Gaeilge throughout the week of 29 September - 6 October 2013, and it’s an amazing way to encourage people from around the world with an interest in Irish to get involved in the Bliain na Gaeilge 2013 celebrations this year. The likes of an Irish-language Comhrá 24/7 has never been seen before, and we hope that it will inspire new conversation circles everywhere as a result!"
Comhrá 24/7 hopes to include conversation circles organised by Conradh na Gaeilge branches, Irish-language committees, schools, youth clubs, the Houses of the Oireachtas, the Northern Ireland Assembly, and many more. All the information about Comhrá 24/7 can be found on the Bliain na Gaeilge website at www.gaeilge2013.ie.
Bliain na Gaeilge is a year of festivities celebrating the Irish language and will include different fun and exciting events organised both locally and nationally throughout Ireland to inspire the public to use their Irish regularly.
