As part of the 100th anniversary of the tragedy of RMS Titanic, a collection of the passengers’ jewelry will go on on public display, according to The Daily Mail. The tour will start in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday and visit three cities.

The jewelry showcase is a mini-exhibit being added to existing exhibit “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” which opened in Atlanta earlier this year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

The jewelry is from one passenger’s purse, which was recovered from the wreckage during a research and recovery mission done in 1987. The exhibit displays diamond and sapphire rings, brooches, necklaces, cufflinks, and a gold pocket watch.

Alexandra Klingelhofer, vice president of the RMS Titanic Collections, Inc. said the purpose of the exhibit is to show the public the wonder of exploration. She added, “We are constantly researching the artifacts, learning more about their story, and we thought jewelry is so beautiful and responds well to people.” Conservators and curators have been studying the jewelry to gain more insight into individual passengers’ lives aboard the Titanic.

Klingelhofer said, “We’re able to give [the public] a glimpse of how it must have been to have opened that for the first time and to see, together, the beautiful jewelry of the Edwardian Period.”

Some individual pieces of the collection have been on display before in either permanent or traveling displays, but the Atlanta debut will be the first time the public can see the majority of the collection.

Premier Exhibitions, Inc. has sponsored previous exhibits showing some of the jewelry pieces and “owns the rights to salvage from the luxury liner’s wreck on the bottom of the North Atlantic.”

The jewelry exhibit will stay at the Atlantic Station Development before continuing to Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada between November 2012 and May 2013. To purchase tickets to the exhibit visit Ticketmaster here.
