My grandfather too was a Fitzpatrick. He DID believe in the Luck of the Irish and credited his coming to America as proof. He served honorably in WWI as a very young man in The Fighting 69th, one of the greatest fighting forces of its day. Luck is perception. I share my grandfather's proud Irish heritage and will take that luck over many others.
What sort of nonsense is this? Seriously, what sort of lazy foolishness brought this article into existence? I suppose Irish Central thinks it has been a slow-news week in Ireland so they have to fill up the space with this garbage. Ireland has made a major discovery in the Atlantic; named a region of our planet and possibly discovered new species...yet the story was hardly covered by IC. Instead we are being treated to stories like Niall O'Dowd's excercise in speculation and this. The story of the Moytirra Vent field recently discovered in the mid-Atlantic, is a story of discovery and innovation. It was an opportunity to write about Ireland's marine endeavours and Irish companies that are at the cutting edge. I guess that story didn't fit in with the narrative that 'Irish' Central wants to create.
....and Notre Dame football sucks.
"luck of the Irish" always meant No luck at all, in my house... or better yet, just when things start looking bright, you'll fall in hole... that's the luck of the Irish.
you are so correct on Danniel O' Donnell's music. everytime I hear it I want to puke.
What a load of bollocks.
My granddad, a Fitzpatrick, used to say,"I'd rather have no luck a'tall, than luck o' the Irish!"
