My vote is for Glenbeigh in County Kerry; it is a beautiful little village at the beginning of the Ring of Kerry and very near the Dingle pennisula. Also you'll find The Red Fox Inn and it's very authentic Kerry Bog Village museum. Learn how they brought back the Kerry Bog Pony from almost certain extinction.

1. As the list is historic picturesque, I would substitute Kinsale, Co Cork for Cobh in a heartbeat. Kinsale is equally, if not more, historic, having a Norman church and a 17th cent. fortress to begin with, and is incredibly more picturesque, with Cobh burdened by the "industrial" look of its port. 2. I think Waterford was referring to Adare, Co Limerick which is indeed very picturesque, except for the congested traffic going between Limerick City and Kerry which always seems to clog up the center of the pretty town.

Check out Enniscrone in County Sligo. The nearby townland of Muckduff gives an amazing view of Killala Bay and the Atlantic ocean.

I did not find Kells to be a friendly place to be except the Round Tower pub had great food. The parking scene for visitors is hard and costly. To park for the high cross you have to do so illegally or walk a good ways as it is not really accessable except as a drive by. The streets go every which way and when there in May was rather dreary. Go to Ballymoney instead.
