Well the reason for banning The Great Dictator in Ireland wasn't really given. Could it have been because DeValera was one of Europe's biggest backers of appeasement, he wanted to have good relations with Nazi Germany despite atrocities and the war, and embarrassment of Hitler was the last thing he wanted? Just asking.

Mention should also be made of Davis Lean's terribly polite -- though magnificent -- Brief Encounter, which was banned because it dared to hint at adultery.

Sanity exsists in Ireland.
I know the arguement it just a movie. People won't do crazy things, because of a line in a movie. Do you remember the line in a Beetles Movie, "you seen on red light, you've seen them all". I was in a car full of teenagers. The teenage driver ran a red light, while saying the same line. We just barely miss hitting another car. That stupid line in a movie could have kill people. So movies do affect peoples thinking, and lives.

I'm really against all censorship. Really, if a movie or book offends no one, who'd want to see or read it? I thought "The Life of Brian" was harmless indeed. I thought "A Clockwork Orange" was good, too, (the author, Anthony Burgess, was RC, too). I saw "Natural Born Killers," but I thought it was a waste.

All Monty Python movies should not only be banned but all prints should be burned...Each one is an example of a very uptight English culture that seeks to release tension by expressing pseudo-humor in that unique sophomoric Cambridge/Oxford genre....The Marx Brothers....certainly you jest?
