A study of 650 birth notices has shown that Lily and Ben were the most popular names in Ireland during 2010.
Amoung the Irish names, Cara, Ailbhe and Maeve were popular for girls while Finn, Fionn and Liam were popular for boys.
James, Patrick and Thomas came in just behind Ben with Andrew, Peter and Hugo in joint fifth position. Lucy was the second most popular name followed by Grace, Sarah, Anna and Alice.
Some of the more unusual names spotted in the notices include Art, Hunter, Espen and Troy for boys and Orianna, Sunniva and Remmy for girls.
The official state-wide results of the most common baby names will be released by the Central Statistics Office during the summer next year. This year they announced that Jack and Sophie were the most popular names in 2009 followed by Sean and Ava.
