Billy The Kid, the famous gunman of the old West, should also be mentioned because his real name was Herery McCarthy - a New York City native.

I remember my father relating stories of our Irish roots since I was very, very young. I've always been proud to Irish and prouder to be a McCarthy

The Best Sporting McCarthy isn't mentioned here. The Great Teddy McCarthy. Still alive, a living legend!!!! He Played Hurling & Football for Cork, and in 1990, he won an All-Ireland Medal in both Sports, a feat that will probably never happen again.
