Che's Lynch roots mightily fits in Galway - based on this alone "Finally, we must mention Thomas Lynch, a grandson of a Galway-born Lynch, who was a signatory to the American Declaration of Independence."
There are at least three different families called 'Lynch' in Ireland. Its false to try and fit them all into one clan, as this article does. It could at least try to point out the location of all the different Lynch families - Ó Loingsigh, de Lench, Ó Loingseacháin, Mac Loingseacháin, Ó Loingseacháin, and Ó Loingsigh
Dr. Walter Lynch, Bishop of Clonfert Diocese, Galway, took a picture of the Madonna to Gyér, Hungary, for safe keeping in 1663. New anti-Catholic laws were enacted around the mid-1690s, thereby violating the Treaty of Limerick. On 17 March, 1697, Bishop's Lynch's Madonna was seen to shed tears of blood for about 1½ hours, an event that was wtnessed by some Protestants as well as hundreds Catholics and at least one Jewish rabbi.
I see that it's mentioned Che Guevara is s decendant of Patrick Lynch. It should also be noted that Che is in fact a Lynch. Che's father is Ernesto Guevara Lynch and was once quoted as saying "the first thing to note is that in my son's veins flowed the blood of the Irish rebels"
There was an Irish Lynch merchant family - unrelated to Sir Thomas Lynch, who was actually English - which went to Jamaica in the 1600s/1700s and thrived, bringing their kinsmen across to join them. That family overflowed to Barbados, and I believe it was the same family which was prominent in other Caribbean islands - Antigua, Montserrat, St. Kitts. There is a document in the INL which shows that a Michael Lynch in Ireland had kinsmen and commercial interests in the Caribbean. There is also a book named "Buckra" describing life in Jamaica which also describes some of the Irish Lynch history in Jamaica. I believe I am related to the Barbados Lynch family (some names there are Anthony / Mary / Hassel / Dominick), and I am in contact with the Jamaica Lynch family. If you may be related to us please contact me here... http://www.candoo.com/contactform/index.html
My father was a Lynch and this is information that would make him proud of his ancestors. I will pass it on to all the other Lynch's in my life. ~ Mary
Trying to track my nana's family. She was born and raised in Ballinasloe, named elizabeth Teresa Lynch, known as Lizzie Lynch. She married Charles Rice in NYC shortly after immigrating. Her mother was Hannah Duffy and was a midwife and always wore a long white apron and rode a donkey. I am obviously very new to this, but have a great desire to connect with any relatives I may still have out there. Any clues would be most appreciated!!
Mr. Jerry Lynch, who posted before; I am doing some research on an Arthur Lynch, and I believe him to be the one mentioned on this page. I am not sure, but I think he may have been in correspondence with some one who I am very much interested in learning more about. If you ever come to find this, and know yourself to be related to him, I would love to ask you some questions . Please email me at big.grey.kitty.face@ gmail.com (do not include the space in the email, I added it so that I do not get spammed online). If you get this, thanks a lot, if not, I'll just keep looking. :)
GREAT!!
Tis a good thing to learn more about my ancestors... slainte
