I have family members lucky enough to have land bordering on the burren, which we regard as one of the most beautiful and mysterious places on earth. Ireland is indeed a land of as yet to be explored mysteries: Newgrange and the numerous passage graves aligned to the sun and moon, along with ancient bronze and gold artifacts and beautifully illustrated books. Who were these seafaring people on the edge of the known world who had such knowledge? From from my own personal feelings, I feel they were people seeking peace from the meglomaniacal rulers of the world and perhaps they did escape for a while. Ireland is an island which has only begun to discover the secrets in it's midst. Hopefully the native Irish will realize the treasures hidden on their island.
daniel day lewis wants to kick back and become a man of the land in wicklow... I'd pick the burren!gGood for clare council in elevating the profile of this area; go carefully on the big government vibe that can obscure the personal level of experiencing the burren...
Amazingly beautiful, between the rock formations, ancient ringforts, the seaview, the meandering sheep and goats - it's a place of serenity. I never want to leave the place when I visit there.
Wonderful place. My Irish grandmother gathered plants and herbs there for medicinal use.
