Having reread this article I'm reminded of the hall of the Red Branch Knights, where I attended an Irish dance in early Sept. of 1962 while stationed at the Marine Barracks in Treasure Island. A large picture of Robert Emmet was hanging on the wall near the bar.(Eighteen months later I spend another 10 days on Treasure Island before being discharged from the Marine Corps).
San Francisco has at least 2 'landmarks' with strong Irish connections: the statue of Robert Emmet near the enrance to the Golden Gate Bridge and St. Brigid's Church on Market Street, which has stain glass windows that display the patron saint of each of Ireland's 32 counties.
