If this would help, I have a Dublin Newspaper, the "Public Gazetter" dated February 20th 1759. About 4 pages and printed both sides. There is a name of W. Sleater on the top of first page. The paper is getting a little brown around the edges and it does need a home. I will be in Dublin on the 30th of August for the Notre Dame Vs. Navy game. My Ancestors are of from there, both mother and father's families.
Joan1954 - Yes of course! Seamor - This is a 32 county project. The idea is that the people themselves post what they know or want to share about Irish history. This is not history told to you but told by you. 'You' being used in the widest and most inclusive sense of the word. We would love to hear more about the Sheriff and San Antonio!
Joan-no because you have no St.Patricks Day parade!
Interesting. Would like to show people what the Irish contibuted to San Antonio from Spanish colonial times to the early 20th century? The Irish contributed much to the development of theis area. So, Are we part of this history project?
Does this history program include the the people of Ireland as a whole, or merely those of the Irish state? To be truely comprehensive, it should include a mention of al Irish townlands, including those north of the Border. When it comes to the Irish in diaspora, all those who distinguished themselves in asignificant way should be included. About a century ago a native of the townland in which I was raised (in West Limerick) became Sheriff of San Mateo County, CA. Sheriff Sheehan deserved recognition by the National Museum's history project.
Fabulous...perhaps we can save at the least the description of ancient and more recent customs that have fallen out of favour. May Day flowers are still strewn on Main Street doorsteps in that lively metropolis of Carrick-on-Shannon by one of the town's most industrious citizens!
History was written by the conqueror . In Eire that was the Roman /British invasion and genocide to try and destroy all traces of our own spirituality and bring us under the yoke of Roma rather than our Sovereign Kin ship of Tara, etc 12 tribes around the one Queen of Eiru= 13.
