And the Great Hunger Museum in Connecticut, midway between New York and Boston, secures for generation of Irish in America a place to go and see the catastrophic event where it all began for most Irish Americans.

It is truly a defining moment and a magnificent museum for all of us.

I am looking forward to visiting this great museum. As a lover of of Irish History and the reason I am here alive, my relatives escaped to America. I am disappointed that somehow I missed knowing about this event & museum, I live in CT and about 40 minutes from there, It would have been an honor to been there for the opening.
I suppose such a museum is necessary. I suppose it is necessary to be reminded of what caused the diaspora of a culture. Personally, i would never willingly visit a museum I am a museum aficionada!) dedicated to misery of any culture. I am so aware that misery has, and always will exist. Yet, i see the need to educate those who know nothing or little of their heritage. My fear is that these kinds of museums tend to cause chauvinism and produce hatred. But that's just me.
Looks beautiful, one would never know from the picture what horrors the Irish suffered. I am so mixed with emotions because, on the other hand I can hardly wait to go see this museum.
