Imitation isn’t always the finest form of flattery when it comes to the Irish accent.

While the accent of Irish people is cited to be one of the most desirable and sexiest in the world, that certainly does not make it an easy one to nail when it comes to faking it.

The Daily Edge composed a list of five wildly poor imitations of the Irish accent. What do you think? Do you know another famous person who butchered the Irish accent?

1. Harry Styles from One Direction

One Direction, the X Factor rejects who were popular enough to secure their own record deal, have certainly set teenage hearts aflutter all around the world.

While bandmate Niall Horan, a native of Westmeath, certainly has no trouble with his natural Irish accent, other bandmate Harry Styles from Cheshire nearly never misses an opportunity to give the Irish accent a try.

2. Sallie Mackey of … YouTube

Ah, YouTube, the breeding ground and showcase forum for inadvertent embarrassing moments. Here, YouTube user Sallie Mackey posts a video of herself attempting to practice her own version of an Irish accent, and beseeching her viewers to help her out, but to also be nice in their critiques.

The video gained an impressive 256,150 hits to date.

3. Robin Williams in a stand-up routine

Never one to hold back, comedian Robin Williams reinforced Irish drinking stereotypes (as well as other nationalities) in this Broadway bit. Warning - foul language involved.

4. Marcus Davis, martial artist

Mickey’s,a malt liquor maker, asked martial artist Marcus Davis if he could put on an Irish accent. In short, no, he can’t.

5. Glenn Beck

While criticizing President Barack Obama’s trip to Ireland and his less than stellar attempt at an Irish accent (in front of Mary McAleese, no less), Beck himself proves that he isn’t much better at faking the famed Irish accent.

Never heard of this guy, Glen Beck. And hope I never do again. Whether or not you like President Barack O'Bama, such toxic pessimism and negativity is surely not the American way. Thought he was Ciara Dexy-Murphy in drag, such was the pervasive condescension. Were all entitled to our human fallible.
Thankfully, Beck's 15 minutes apparently are up. But he certainly had that smug, snotty, sarcastic attitude that seems to be in fashion nowadays.
Hang on a moment. This might be the first and last time that I defend Glenn Beck. But surely he is DELIBERATELY doing a bad Irish accent as a way of satirising Obama's supposed efforts. Mind you, somebody might explain to him that it is "WestMINSTER Abbey" not "West MINISTER Abbey"
People love to imitate what they love to hear !!!
Ive yet to hear a non Irish person do a decent convincing Irish accent.
They're just having fun. Chill out.
BippyBellito and edmundburke are right on. BTW edmundburke, love the nom de plume.
Every Irish Citizen and Irish-American should send Mr. Obama an email like trhis: What up, ni--a?
A sense of humour in some posters would'nt go astray.
Could any of us imagine the uproar if an Irish delegate or president tried to use Black slang when speaking to Obama! Why Obama isn't listed as the most offensive of all attempts at "Irish Talk" is beyond my comprehension. An article needs to be written to focus on just what a buffoon this Obama is, especially how he stereotypes our heritage. What a disgrace he is and what poor reporting this piece of "journalism" is.
In trying to pile on against Beck, IC inadvertantly highlighted an incident that wasn't covered very much -- Barack Obama's offensive and unfunny attempt to mimic an Irish accent. In front of the President of Ireland no less and for the benefit of the press. This is highly insulting. IC should rewrite this story and put Obama should on the top of this list.
