William almost certainly had an educated rural Warwickshire accent. It may have been altered by trips abroad during all those mysterious missing years. His personal accent would not have been copied by his actors on stage as they would have used their own or acted another, suited to the part. ..... One thing is certain: Neither he or his actors ever spoke in the arch pompous style of delivery called Standard English / Received Pronunciation we get from English Theatre companies. ........... However the marvellous thing about his works is they are virtually indestructable, no matter how they are spoken or staged. ..... Mind you, the sound of those poor Americanian students delivering what they have been told by some deranged academic is an authentic 'Shakespeare accent' through the native nasal whine ... comes pretty close!
