America's oldest Irish pub starts over

Patrick Rowley and his wife Anne, owners of Patrick's of Pratt Street in Baltimore

The bar that's been hailed as American's oldest Irish pub since forever is reopening its doors with a brand new face-lift.

Patrick's of Pratt Street in Baltimore, MD, was established in 1847 by the Rowley family. In late 2008 the bar closed its door for renovations.

And after a year-long hiatus, the bar has reopened it's doors with a brand new look.

"We were at Pratt Street for 163 years," said Pat Rowley.

Rowley's wife, Ann is the owner of the new establishment.

"We had a business plan that said, 'Every 163 years, open a new location.' We're not moving real fast, you know."

"Good hearty foods that won't break the bank is what we're going for," said chef Zu Pinsker, who had been sous chef at the restaurant for four years.

The bar hopes to be around for another 163 years but promises not to wait as long to renovate.

Great place for a Pint! Been there many a time
Thank you for the article. To clarify: Patrick's of Pratt Street is located in Baltimore, MD, near the historic B and O Railroad Museum. It is America's Oldest Irish Pub, in the same location since 1862, and same family since 1847. It has recently reopened under new management, and continues to work closely with, and give back to, the area's Irish community. The pub has been reopened by the former sous-chef, and she is working to create a lively, friendly, neighborhood and Irish Pub atmosphere, with a new menu!
very cool and my brother lives there, so now I must go for a visit!
Good Health to Patrick's of Pratt St.
Their web site (http://www.patricksofpratt.com/) is more helpful than this article although some information on the web site is not as clear as one might expect (hours on Sat and Sun are 5 PM to close). The cartoon page is unusual for a pub's web site. Good luck opening the adult humor page.
The geography has me confused also.
The story is a bit confusing to me, The West Side Pub is in the city of Frederick in Western Maryland, and Patrick's of Pratt Street remains in the larger city of Baltimore at the Chespapeake Bay. Sorry, but I have learned, at least at the Baltimore location, the owners do not support the Irish that support them.
