Kudos to them for going back to Ireland. It is a magnificent and beautiful country filled with amazing, warm and friendly people. New York City is so incredibly overrated that it's laughable. The weather is terrible, it's filthy, outrageously expensive and beyond overpopulated. It is a stressful grind to live there and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. Why the Irish wants to live there so badly is an absolute mystery.

Bythebay, if you have a good qualification you'll get a job in NZ or Aus no problem. Gonna make a decision when Im over there at the end of the year whether or not I want to make a move myself.

I don't understand this story. it sort of leads you to believe this is a forced move brought on by some sort of major change so its not clear to me why they're going home. Unless they've got guaranteed jobs, cheap accommodation, daycare and school plans, they'll very quickly find out its more expnensive back home than here!. While i love and miss home, i couldnt afford to go back home and live there given the mess in the economy, the down value in homes and the cost of living.

April, your days in NY seem to have been good to you. May your days in Ireland be equally good to you and yours.

I love America and have many friends in ireland all your hatred cannot change that, the nice thing about the world today is that you can choose where you would like to be, provided you can become a citizen of your chosen country, Benn to cork a few times, I must have missed you as I had a great time.

BrianO, many have returned to Ireland from the US and many more are returning. Tony Gallagher, an Irish emigrant and a retired 72 year old carpenter in Sunnyside, Queens "Irish America" died alone and lay dead for 7 days before being discovered. They indeed suffered in "America".

Bear go back to Ireland, why would a disability hold you back? The planes fly both ways and there is no need to suffer in America if Dublin is your style. Ciara you are probably right, if the U.S is a destination for those looking for work it's best to see which way the election goes before booking your flight, although I'd like to see new zealand and/or australia.

Bear, the irish are going to Australia, New Zealand and Canada these days. The US isnt getting much of a look in.

The Secure Communities Act is being rolled out in the US and many more illegals there, both Irish and others, will be nabbed. Amnesty for illegal immigrants in the US who broke US immigration (and other) laws just doesn't fly either there or in Ireland. If you're going to emigrate to a country, you need to respect the laws of that country and do it properly.
