Born Olivia Cockburn, the daughter of influential 60 Minutes correspondent Leslie Cockburn and Irish journalist Andrew Cockburn, Olivia Wilde’s background was a far cry from the performing arts. Despite her parents’ background in Journalism and their prominence on the Washington DC social scene, Wilde claims she wanted to become an actress from an early age.
Wilde, proud of her Irish background, subsequently attended the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin in order to fulfill her acting ambitions, and drew inspiration for her stage name from the great Irish writer Oscar Wilde. Upon her return to the States, Wilde found her acting career taking off with guest roles on popular shows like The O.C., films Alpha Dog and The Girl Next Door, and even in a music video for Alt-Rock band Dashboard Confessional. Not only was her professional career taking off, but Wilde’s personal life was also making headlines. At 19, Wilde eloped with Tao Ruspoli, a literal Prince Charming, as he was the son of Italian Royalty.
Wilde is a vocal political advocate who has starred in numerous public service announcements and even campaigned for Barack Obama in 2008. She is also a vegan who often speaks out on behalf of animal rights's organizations. Though she separated from her husband in early 2011, Wilde’s career continues to sky rocket with multiple magazine covers, and leading roles lined up.
