Hathaway began her career as a teen in the 1999 television series “Get Real”. She got her first big film role as the lead in the very successful “The Princess Diaries” in 2001, and followed on with the sequel, “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” in 2004.
She stuck with the family film genre with her next offering, 2004’s “Ella Enchanted”, but soon after Hathaway branched out into more dramatic films, with roles in both “Havoc” and “Brokeback Mountain” in 2005.
Hathaway got her first lead role in a drama in the 2006 movie, “The Devil Wears Prada”, where she played the the put-upon assistant to Meryl Streep’s powerful and demanding fashion magazine editor. Her leading lady status continued with “Becoming Jane” (2007), “Rachel Getting Married” (2008), and “Bride Wars” (2009), opposite Kate Hudson.
Hathaway then starred in the 2010 ensemble movie, “Valentine’s Day”, alongside Jessica Alba, That '70s Show alums Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, Patrick Dempsey, Jessica Biel, Eric Dane, and Julia Roberts. 2010 also brought lead roles in “Alice in Wonderland”, as the White Queen, and in “Love and Other Drugs”, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.
In 2011, Hathaway lent her voice to the animated movie, “Rio”, as well as starring in the romantic movie, “One Day”, with Jim Sturgess. In February 2011, Hathaway hosted the 83rd Academy Awards with James Franco.
In January 2011, it was announced that she would play the part of Catwoman in the upcoming “The Dark Knight Rises”, the film is currently in post-production, awaiting a summer 2012 release. Hathaway is also slated to play Fantine in Tom Hooper’s upcoming movie production of “Les Miserables”.
