The Co. Cavan P&B Association will be hosting the First Annual Pat Cahill Memorial Golf Outing, Monday, October 1st at Pelham Bay / Split Rock Golf Course. Registration will start at 11 AM and there will be a boxed lunch, with a shotgun start at 12:30 PM. The day will conclude with a cocktail reception, a dinner and awards ceremony with many prizes to distribute.

The outing will be in memory of Patrick Cahill who served as President of the Cavan P&B Association from 1999-2002 and an irreplaceable Member of the Cavan Association for many years. He served as an Executive Officer of the New York State Ancient Order of Hibernians.

From leaving his proud home in the Parish of Denn to learning his trade in Dublin to finding his way in New York, Pat created a place of enjoyment wherever he hung his hat. In Pat’s company, Denn was superior, people were more interesting and stories were better told.

In Queens, he made a second home for all Cavan People and for any Irishman looking to meet friends at the Woodside Steak House. If he was a little tired, you certainly didn’t know it.

Pat Cahill never forgot his friends, including Br. Clement and the Irish Franciscan Brothers. He knew what their mission was and believed it. So Pat put his money where his mouth was and organized a Golf Outing for their benefit of the Franciscan Missions. The Outing never felt like a Charity; rather it was a gathering of the tribe of friends for a good day out. Competition was fierce. Scores were lenient and at times, optional.

For the past 36 years, the Franciscan Brothers have been teaching in Kenya at their Agricultural College, primary, secondary Schools and rural development. This year they opened a new Agricultural school in Uganda. There is no drinking water available in the area at the moment, this golf outing is to assist the brothers with building the well needed.

The Cavan P & B Association has decided to continue Pat’s legacy and proceeds from the Pat Cahil Memoiral Golf outing will be given to the Franciscan Brothers.
