Romantic twist to heritage week event

A Heritage Week event in the Burren, County Clare took an unexpected turn this week when an American tourist proposed to his girlfriend during a guided geology walk.

On Wednesday, Kyle Fisher and Crystal Crotts from North Carolina decided to participate in the guided walk around Mullaghmore Mountain, one of hundreds of Heritage Week events taking place throughout Ireland this week. At the summit of the karst mountain and in front of more than 30 event participants, Crystal accepted Kyle’s marriage proposal.

The walk was led by Geologist Dr. Eamon Doyle of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark and Marie McGauran of Burren Experience Guided Walks.

According to Marie, “It was a lovely sight in the beautifully scenic and heritage rich Mullaghmore landscape to witness a young couple committing to spend the rest of their lives together. The setting could not have been more perfect for Kyle when he went on bended knee at the summit of Mullaghmore. I wish the couple the best of luck in their future together.”

Kyle and Crystal’s Heritage Week experience didn’t end there as the happy couple later braved choppy seas and took the Cliffs of Moher to Liscannor Heritage Week cruise on Thursday.
Heritage Week 2012, the 10th annual celebration of Ireland’s built, natural and cultural heritage is coordinated by The Heritage Council, with support from Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht. Heritage Week also is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
