Girsa.

Those talented young women from Pearl River New York who perform as Girsa are no longer young girls as we see them taking further steps into the Irish music scene as mature artists who balance occasional gigs with evolving lives, studies and professions.

The Christmas season allows them to come together to produce a couple of shows in the metropolitan area as they work towards completion of another recording to showcase their many talents among the six gals who grew up in the very Irish town in Rockland County.

Girsa is now a close-knit sextet comprising sisters Maeve and Bernadette Flanagan, cousins Pamela Geraghty and Emily McShane, Deirdre Brennan and Blaithin Loughran.

Last year at Christmas they put on a sold-out show at the Pearl River High School which had all the joy and seasonal cheer and music that would be the hallmark of any homecoming at that time of the year.  Lots of local color and participants from the town were interlaced with the solid musical program Girsa arranged for the night.

So look for more of the same if not better this year on Friday night, December 20 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at the Pearl River High School (275 E. Central Avenue).  Tickets can be purchased at www.girsamusic.com or at Danu Gift Shop in Pearl River (39 E. Central Avenue). Call 845-323-7539.

The following night Girsa will be in New Jersey at the Hamilton Stage of the Union County Performing Arts Center (ucpac.org) in Rahway.
