The IPC feels the Irish community is entering crucial weeks in the campaign for immigration reform for the 50,000 undocumented Irish in the US. The IPC also feels the section of the bill ensuring future flow of Irish immigrants to the US is an important element aimed at ensuring an adequate number of visas are available to the Irish in the years ahead.

The Irish Pastoral Centre in response to the passage in the senate of the reform bill has announced the appointment of Volunteer, Sean Conroy as IPC Immigration Reform Campaign Coordinator. Sean, a graduate of Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Political Science, was a past activist during the ILIR reform efforts when the Kennedy McCain Bill was being considered. Sean was present in DC during passage in the senate of that bill and visited many legislative offices. He served as a volunteer in State Representative Sean Garballeys election campaign. Representative Garballey went on to become one of the youngest members of the legislature in the history of the Commonwealth, and the two remain close friends.

Sean's responsibilities at the IPC will include managing and coordinating phone bank advocacy efforts, assembling database of active activists for advocacy work, and monitoring the House bills and their progress through committees. He will liase with Fr. John McCarthy, pro bono attorneys, and Geri Garvey of our Washington DC office developing strategies for an effective campaign hoping to lead to successful passage through the House of Representatives. Readers who wish to get involved with the IPC can contact the IPC directly 617 265-5300
