Mother Caroline Academy & Education Center is Mother Caroline Academy is a private, tuition-free school for girls in grades 4-8 from limited financial means. It serves girls of all faiths, race and cultures from Boston neighborhoods. The mission of the school is to provide a high quality education that develops the individual gifts of each student and prepares her for success in competitive secondary schools and college. Rooted in the Catholic tradition, that recognizes the dignity of each person, the Academy emphasizes the importance of scholarship, leadership, spiritual, social and moral development. The Mother Caroline community continues to support and nourish its graduates through their secondary and college education.
The mission of the Education Center is to empower parents and other adults to achieve their greatest personal and economic potential. We believe our mission can best be achieved by focusing on the needs of the whole family and by preserving a spirit of volunteerism and commitment among all those who aid, support and benefit from MCAEC.
The purpose of the event is to meet the personal fundraising goal of two members of the South Boston Community, Rich Lincoln and Julie Gehring. They biked 25 miles in the misty and cold weather on September 29th in support of the students at Mother Caroline in the Rodman Ride for Kids.
The Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity raising funds for youth-focused social service agencies that support at-risk kids in Massachusetts. The Ride for Kids and its affiliated agencies fundraise year-round, culminating with The Ride event, a 25, 50, and 100-mile non-competitive cycling tour, each fall. The event is underwritten and the Rodman Ride for Kids matches 10% of the fundraised by the organization if they meet their goal.
Julie is the Assistant Director of Development at Mother Caroline Academy and convinced/twisted her boyfriend Rich’s arm to join her in the ride. Before the ride, he hadn’t been on a bike in over 20 years. They must raise $2,500 at the event. All of the bands donated their time to support them in their mission. Julie and met Rich at Mr. Dooley’s while seeing Devri perform over a year ago. They are supporters of Pasty and Maxi and Katie McD used to live in the apartment downstairs and sometimes crashes their house parties with her guitar and beautiful voice!
