Manchester United has beaten a host of clubs to secure the signing of Gaeltacht teenager Joe Coll.
The Irish speaking Donegal net minder continues a long and proud tradition by the county to produce goalkeepers.
Shay Given, currently the Irish no.1 and custodian at Manchester City and 1990 World Cup legend Packie Bonner are both proud Donegal men, and Coll has given himself the best environment to learn his trade at the Theatre of Dreams that is Old Trafford.
"He [Alex Ferguson] wished me good luck and success and he told me they were not signing me just for the sake of signing me but one day to become the number one at the club,” Coll told the Irish Independent.
An underage international, Coll as just turned 16, and at six-foot-one he seems to have all the physical attributes to flourish as a pro.
With Waterford’s John O’Shea, Derry’s Darron Gibson and Belfast native Jonny Evans in the senior set up, Coll will have plenty of compatriots to guide him on his way.
Go n-éirí an bóthar leat Joe!
