Meet one of the newest volunteers to the Irish Pastoral Centre, Boston. Mairead hails from Rathnure, Co. Wexford originally and is in Boston with her fiancé Breandan O’Niadh, also a Co. Wexford native with roots in Galway.

Mairéad helps out on the front desk at the IPC where she assists with administrative tasks for the office staff. Mairéad has a very warm caring nature and is well received by everyone at the Centre. Mairead is a primary school teacher at Ballyduff National School, Co. Wexford from which she’s taking a career break. Mairéad holds a Masters in Education from St. Patrick’s College, Dublin.

Mairead and Breandan are in Boston where Brendan is perusing postgraduate studies in Harvard Dental School and are excited to be getting married in June back in Wexford.

Mairéad first came to the IPC back in August on arrival to the Boston area, where she met Kathleen who she said, and “she was very helpful”. This led her to decide to volunteer as she had some free days during the week. “I find it great to meet up with other Irish people. I particularly enjoy chatting to the seniors and hearing about their emigration stories and how they created a new life over here in Boston”.

Mairéad’s hobbies include GAA, yoga, cycling and travelling. Among Mairéad’s other interests is travelling which has taken her to Australia, South America and is no stranger to the US.
