Ryan Dolan

Ryan Dolan performed “Only Love Survives” for 2013’s Eurovision Song Contest which was hosted in Malmo, Sweden on May 18.

An average of 799,700 people watched the show with viewing figures spiking to 1,079,700 while Dolan was performing. RTÉ were ‘thrilled’ with the viewing figures, as more people watched the entire show in 2013 than last year for Jedward’s entry.

The 27-year-old Tyrone man came last out of the 26 competitors with a total of 5 marks, “Of course I’m disappointed with the result,” he  said, “but that’s Eurovision,” Insideireland.ie reports.

However, on Sunday, Dolan’s song entered the charts in 17 countries despite his low entry level. Head of the RTÉ Delegation Michael Kealy said Ryan Dolan “is a star already” and has “no doubt that he has a successful career ahead of him,” writes Inside Ireland, “Ryan performed superbly on the night and while the result was disappointing, he can be proud of his performance and take comfort in the fact that the Irish public think it was undeserved to be placed last.”
