According to the County Armagh Observatory a fireball was allegedly spotted in the skies above Northern Ireland. The facility was inundated with calls from witnesses.

One caller from Coleraine said it burned a yellow orange color in the sky and had a long tail. Another caller from Derry said it was a fireball.

A spokesperson from the Observatory said that it was most likely “space junk”, a small asteroid or a comet.

It’s thought that the debris landed in the North Atlantic off County Donegal.

The spokesperson said “If enough video footage from different parts of Northern Ireland is found, then it may be possible to determine the nature and origin of the impacting object."
