The Burren in Somerville hosted the fantastic “The Fiddlers of Inishbofin” from March 13-16. The highly entertaining and enjoyable show was a huge success and raised over $25,000 for Breast Cancer Research with B.A Events donating $10,000.

Tommy McCarthy, who for years has brought traditional Irish music to Boston and the surrounding areas, collaborated with Boston-based dramatist/director Peter Holm to produce the “The Fiddlers of Inishbofin,” a romantic comedy of music rivalry based on a true series of events.

“Fiddlers” follows the story of a troupe of Irish musicians who take the ferry to Galway’s Inishbofin in the dead of winter, for a session and birthday celebration.

“The crowd really enjoyed the show” according to director Peter Holm. “I have been a playwright for over 30 years and I’m now beginning to see a hunger for contemporary Irish plays. We used a lot of young Irish actors in to give it a more modern feel.”

The 11th Ras na hEireann USA 5km organized by B.A. Events took place on March 10th. The popular road race has a limit of 5,000 registered participants and has sold out weeks in advance every year since 2004. Along with several other races, B.A. Events raise much needed funds for various charities and their donation of $10,000 to the proceeds of the “Fiddlers” production was surely a generous boost to Breast Cancer research.

After the success of the show in The Burren, "The Fiddlers of Inisbofin” will be performed again next month. If you missed out last time, then the production will be taking place again in the Florian Hall, 55 Hallet Street, Boston on May 4th.
