Dear Colleen,

I am a 42 year old single man. I always pictured myself married with children, but I never found the right person.

I am a second generation Irish American, and faith is very important to me.

I am getting tired of looking for 'the one', that I am starting to wonder if I should give up.

I am considering joining the priesthood.

Is is possible that I have only realized my true calling now, and that I was put on this earth to be a priest? It is possible that I will never find 'the one' and that 'the one' is in fact, God?

What do you think I should do? Thank you in advance.

Sincerely, Sean, Illinois.

Dear Sean,

The first thing I need to say to you is that it is NEVER too late to find 'the one'. Finding that someone special does not happen easily, like these ridiculous Hollywood movies portray.

You are still a relatively young man - your biological clock is not ticking at the moment, so you may still marry and have children. Don't give up on love!!!

If being a priest was your true calling, you would not be asking me these questions or having second thoughts. You are currently viewing it as a back-up option.

Why don't you use your faith in a proactive way, and join a church group, a charity, fundraising committees, etc? This is a great way to meet people who may be in the same boat as you, with the same interest as you.

You will find that special woman Sean, just don't give up. Good luck!

Afterall, you have the luck of the Irish...
