This week the Republican Party finally got the gun toting mascot they deserve.

A potent symbol of the chaos currently engulfing the party, the woman in question was pictured literally taking aim at a fellow Republican for the crime of not being Republican enough.

Step forward former North Carolina Republican Party spokeswoman Kay Daly, challenger to N.C. Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.

Daly is drawing national attention this week for a shocking attack ad that underscores how nasty the civil war within the GOP is getting.

Daly is pictured firing a high powered gun and inviting viewers to join her: “I’m hunting RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). Care to join me?” she asks.

The ad is the latest proof that the party’s circular firing squad is still taking aim at fellow conservatives.

Attacking Republican Ellmers the ad fires off a litany of angry charges:

“This feminist voted to cut veterans benefits and to gut the military budget. She voted to let homosexuals pretend they’re married. She’s a RINO who voted for Obamacare and voted to raise the debt ceiling twice to pay for abortions in D.C. and to fund Planned Butcherhood.”

Daly’s ad played less than a week after the latest horrific mass shooting that killed seven women and two men in Oregon, about which she has this to say:

Pushing #guncontrol after #OregonShooting is like advocating blade control after #ISIS beheading. We need #Jihadist control. #IamaChristian

Daly has been an aide to five Republican members of Congress so she’s had some experience with the inner working of the party and her conservative support base is growing.

On Thursday she took a victory lap for her part in the grassroots coalition to harpoon potential GOP House Speaker candidate Kevin McCarthy.

Speaking to the press she said she had promised to go RINO hunting and she has delivered.

In describing McCarthy on Twitter, Daly referred to him as an “infidel in our ranks.” The religious word, used to describe a person who adheres to a religion other than one's own, is telling.

For Daly and other conservatives like her, conservative political orthodoxy has now become a kind a religious faith and not just a political outlook.

Asked if McCarthy were a victim of the Tea Party, Byrne replied, “I don't know if I'd say he was a victim of anything other than, we don't have a consensus within our conference.”

In a shock move McCarthy pulled out of the race for House Speaker on Friday just as lawmakers were expecting him to enter the race to succeed the retiring John Boehner.

After McCarthy’s dramatic announcement Speaker Boehner immediately moved to adjourn the meeting and some members spoke of their ”total shock,”with some members described as audibly crying.

Rep. Peter King tells me that members are crying in cloakroom, unable to handle the unrest and confusion. "A banana republic," he says.

The move leaves House Republicans in a state of utter chaos, conducting bitter ideological purges even though they have no sense who will serve as their next leader, nor even a clear governing plan for the looming legislative battles in the coming weeks.

The war of words between conservatives has been escalating for years but now at last it is being waged in the open, with Tea Party factions battling the party elders, and no end to the chaos in sight.

Ominously for all concerned the most exultant voice of all on Thursday belonged to Donald Trump.

Great, Kevin McCarthy drops out of SPEAKER race. We need a really smart and really tough person to take over this very important job!

The House is divided among itself and the public is taking note. The latest Zogby poll reveals that millennials support the Democrats by overwhelming margins. If they turn out in similar numbers to 2008 and 2012, the GOP will experience a blowout Zogby predicts.
