The 'Water for Elephants' actress – who married the Hollywood agent in a small ceremony in March – thinks Jim is shocked at suddenly being the centre of attention having always been behind the camera and working with talent out of the public glare previously.

She said: "He thinks it's totally bizarre. I think you have an instinct when you're with the person you want to build a life with. You learn more as you get older about what you need in a partner."

However the blonde beauty – who has children Ava, 11 and Deacon, eight, from her previous marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe – thinks it is helpful to be in a relationship with someone who understands the pressures of fame.

Asked if it is easier to be with someone who is not an actor, she responds: "I wouldn't say it's easier; every relationship has its own dynamic. But it helps that he understands what I do for a living."

Despite her high-pressure job in the public eye, Reese believes being a parent is the toughest job she has.

She told You magazine: "Being a parent is the hardest thing on earth. It breaks your heart when your children are unhappy and you feel incredible joy when they are happy."
