One Direction star Louis Tomlinson and Justin Bieber

The One Direction star thinks the 19-year-old Canadian pop star – who caused controversy earlier this week when he arrived on stage for the first of his London shows two hours late and in a separate incident threatened a photographer - has been unfairly treated by the media recently and wishes they would "take it easy" on him despite admitting he is not close to the 'Beauty And A Beat' singer.

The 21-year-old British boy band member wrote on his Twitter page on Friday (08.03.13): "Although I don't know him personally, I do wish the press would take it easy on @justinbieber."

He then added: "I really do empathize with him, I don't see anything out of character in comparison to any other teenagers I know."

Justin wrapped up his fourth and final sold out tour date in London on Friday night following a difficult week, which also saw him lose his breath on stage forcing him to undergo a check-up in hospital afterwards.

On Thursday he took a swing at the photographer, but was kept back by his security guards before eventually being ushered back into the vehicle and driving away.

The 'Never Say Never' hitmaker later blamed his behavior on a "rough week".

He tweeted: "Ahhhhh! Rough morning. Trying to feel better for this show tonight but let the paps get the best of me.

"Sometimes when people r shoving cameras in your face all day and yelling the worst thing possible at u...well I'm human. Rough week "Not gonna let them get the best of me again. Gonna get focused on this show tonight. Adrenaline is high now. Gonna put it on the stage "Only way someone can break u is if u let them. (sic)"

Justin later revealed he received a pep talk from rapper turned actor Will Smith, who gave him some great advice.

He tweeted: "love to big man Will Smith for the great talk yesterday.

We know the truth and we must stand tall. Love u man! thanks!"
