A man with a very low IQ of just 48 has been banned from having sex by a judge in London.

The man who cannot be named and is only known as Alan was banned after social workers said his "vigorous sex life" with another man was inappropriate as he did not know what he was doing.

A psychiatrists testified that trying to give the man sex education would only leave him "confused."

Justice Mostyn admitted the case raised major questions about 'civil liberties and personal autonomy"but agreed the man should not be allowed to have sex.

He said the case was "legally, intellectually and morally" complex because sex is "one of the most basic human functions" and the court must "tread especially carefully" when the state tries to curtail it.

Because of the judge's order, the man is now subject to "close supervision" by the council according to the Daily Telegraph.

The judge stated: "In such circumstances it is agreed that the present regime for Alan's supervision and for the prevention of future sexual activity is in his best interests."
