Cynthia Germanotta, 56, is said to be concerned about her daughter's health after she collapsed during a show last year, and plans to keep a watchful eye on the singer to make she eats properly and cuts down on her alcohol intake when she is away from home.

A friend of the star – whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – told The Sun newspaper: "She may be one of the biggest, and strangest, pop stars in the world but her relationship with her parents is very traditional. She is from a typical loving Italian-American background and her family have normal parental concerns.

"Her mum thinks she drinks too much and doesn't eat enough. She has gone along to keep an eye on her drinking and feed her up."

Last week, Gaga reportedly shocked Cynthia with her wild antics as she celebrated her 25th birthday with a host of celebrity pals including her boyfriend Luc Carl, Kate Hudson, Fergie and Adam Lambert at Los Angeles' LA Cita Mexican restaurant, where she received a custom-made sex doll as a gift.

An onlooker said: "Gaga, who treated her tequila-swigging guests to a tipsy rendition of 'Born This Way' backed by the restaurant band, was on serious form.

"Her mum Cynthia looked red-faced at times - she kept muttering, 'Stefani!' under her breath."

Gaga recently claimed she is on a “drunk diet” and believes drinking whiskey fuels her creativity.

She said: "I am on the drunk diet. I live my life as I want to, creatively. I like to drink whiskey and stuff while I am working. But the deal is I've got to work out every day, and I work out hung over if I am hung over. And it's about the cross-training and keeping yourself inspired. I have to say, I do a ton of yoga."
