Kathy Griffin, who is to star on an episode of "Law & Order: SVU" next week said she is getting serious for her role.

Griffin told E! Entertainment that the character she plays on the upcoming episode, (a militant lesbian activist) "is definitely more serious than I usually do."

Griffin, who works side by side with Mariska Hargitay on this episode, is initially a suspect to her partner's murder but as soon as the SVU team realize she too is in danger they provide her with protection.

Said Griffin, "First of all, let me apologize to the other ladies who are going to lose the Emmy to me this year because they probably worked very hard. But you know what? It's my time," she jokes.

"It's so much fun to get in Chris Meloni's face," says Kathy, who claims "Law & Order: SVU" is one of her favorite shows.

Hargitay, who shares a passionate kiss with Griffin on the upcoming episode says about her new colleague, "Oh yeah, that's what it's all about for her -- Emmy gold."

Christopher Meloni, Hargitay's partner on the show, said, "Oh yeah, she deserves the bling."

"She's outspoken. She's brash. She's still funny," said Meloni.

Griffin's episode airs next Wednesday on NBC and she says, "I think a lot of straight men will be pleased and I think a lot of lesbians will be pleased."
