The ‘Kids are Alright’ actress - who has two kids, Caleb, 13, and eight-year-old Liv, with her husband Bart Freundlich – loves getting away from it all with Bart because she doesn’t feel desirable in her everyday life.
In an interview conducted by Tom Ford for the US edition of InStyle magazine, she explained: "I think [to feel sexy,] you need to be away from your children. Doing the mommy stuff does sort of squash that area of your life.

"The day-to-day of picking up kids and going to the eye doctor and then dropping them off at basketball and then going to the middle school concert doesn't make you feel very sexy.

"I feel sexiest when I'm alone with Bart or when we take a trip."

Although 50-year-old Julianne – whose first marriage to actor Jon Gould Rubin ended in divorce after nine years – loves having time alone with Bart, she has previously revealed the couple feel guilty when they try to go away without their kids.

She said: “Your relationship is never going to be what it was at the start - and the fact it's not is something that we struggle with. My husband and I try to spend time alone, but it is hard because the kids go, 'Why are you going out, you went out last night?' So we try to make time for each other, and maybe take trips away together but we're like everyone else in that respect."
