Jamie Dornan and Fifty Shades of Grey co-star Dakota Johnson.

Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan will do just fine in one of the most high-profile roles out there, that of Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the wildly successful “mommy porn” novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

Who says so? None other than Charlie Hunnam, the actor originally set to play the sexed-up Grey until he dropped out of the project in October.

“I’m sure he’ll do a great job,” Hunnam, best known as the star of the popular FX series Sons of Anarchy, told TMZ.

“I don’t really know his work. But I know [director Sam Taylor-Johnson] is amazing. She has fantastic taste so I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”

Dornan posed for a recent Entertainment Weekly photo shoot with his Grey co-star Dakota Johnson, and said he’s not one bit phased with all the increased attention he’s received since signing on for the part.

“It’s happening, but not in an unmanageable way at the moment,” Dornan told the magazine of the paparazzi intrusion. “I’ve been around it before and it’s ugly, but I’m glad I’m 31 and not 21, and married. I feel very settled. I’m not running in and out of clubs at 5 a.m. anymore.”

Dornan’s wife, British actress Amelia Warner, is due to give birth any time now to the couple’s first child. She’ll do so in Vancouver, where Grey filming will begin next month.

Due to casting changes and what not, the film’s release date was pushed back from next summer to February 13, 2015.
