His "Dracula" series is still running on Friday nights on NBC, but filming wrapped several months ago so Jonathan Rhys Meyers has some time on his hands.
The Irish actor, 36, was in London last week hanging out at the Groucho Club. His NBC bosses might not be too pleased, as it was widely reported that they withheld a chunk of his $100,000 per episode salary until he finished all 10 shows.
“The Irish actor received per diem payments and other small dispensations, but the lump sum of his salary was contingent on him completing the season,” a recent scoop in The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
The suits at NBC were concerned about their wayward star, whose past battles with addiction have been widely noted. The Reporter story stated that JRM had a “meltdown” while filming "Dracula" in Budapest and had to travel to London for brief treatment. He returned, finished the series with a sober companion in tow, and then returned to rehab at the end of the summer.
"Dracula" has performed fairly well for NBC. It debuted with big numbers, saw a dip in subsequent weeks, but it’s still holding its own on Friday nights, one of the most difficult to find a solid, loyal audience.
JRM’s fans seem like an enthusiastic bunch. He’s a finalist for a People’s Choice Award in the category of Favorite Actor in a New TV Series. The awards ceremony will air on January 8.
