The British actress – whose relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf ended in October – feels lucky because she doesn’t have to do anything to alter her appearance if she wants a quiet day out.
She said: “I don’t have to do anything! Hand on heart, I’ve never been stopped in the street by anyone. Ever. No one recognises me, which is great.”
However, her apparent anonymity has led the 25-year-old actress having to sit next to people openly criticising her latest movie ‘Never Let Me Go’.
She revealed: “My life hasn’t really changed. I don’t have to alter anything about my life, really.
“I was sitting in a gondola at Telluride Film Festival with six people who had just watched ‘Never Let Me Go’. They were having a conversation about it and criticising it and I was sitting there and they had no idea.”
Carey – who won the Best Actress BAFTA for her performance in ‘An Education’ - believes it has been her choice of roles that has helped her stay under the radar.
She explained to LOOK magazine: “I think that fame comes with big films where people are playing characters, like comic book movies, and an audience has ownership over that person. For the films I have been in so far, the fan base is different.”
