A man who screamed racist abuse at an American football fan who had traveled to Dublin for the Notre Dame-Navy Emerald Classic game last year has had a warrant issued for his arrest.

Declan Nolan (24), of Harcourt Street, admitted to shouting the “n-word” at passers-by in Dublin’s city center. Nolan failed to appear in court for the hearing of his case. An arrest warrant has now been issued.

The accused previously pleaded guilty to public intoxication and breach of the peace, by using threatening behavior.

Police Officer Philip Earl was on the scene on Dame Street, Dublin 2, on September 1, 2012. He told the court Nolan was in a “highly agitated state.”

Earl reported that Nolan was “shouting abuse and screaming 'f****** n******' at passers-by." The police officer explained that due to the Notre Dame-Navy game there were thousands of people in the Temple Bar area at the time.

When the officer approached Nolan and asked him to calm down he failed to comply. He was arrested and brought to Pearse Street Police Station. He gave the police “various addresses and variations on his date of birth."

The police found there was another warrant for Nolan’s arrest at the time and that he had 20 previous convictions including a two-year suspended sentence in 2011 for burglary.

The Herald reported that Judge Michael Walsh issued a bench warrant for his arrest and sentencing.
