University College Dublin is delighted to announce the launch of an exciting summer program for high school students to experience student life in UCD and Ireland. The program will run from July 12th – 27, 2012.

UCD is an ideal environment for high school students to challenge themselves academically and build a college resume, while enjoying the vibrant student and cultural life of the European capital city of Dublin.

The program is two and a half weeks in duration and consists of an Irish studies course and a variety of field trips and social activities.  On-campus housing will be provided for all students in single rooms in the UCD Residences. This program is ideally suited for high school students entering the 11th or 12th grade.

A key feature of this summer program will be an Irish History and Culture course presented by UCD faculty.  The course size will be small with a maximum enrolment of 50 students. There will also be faculty-led immersion days at UCD’s various Colleges such as the UCD College of Business and Law, UCD College of Science and the UCD College of Arts and Celtic Studies.  In addition to this students will be presented with certificates on completion of this program.

Students will also experience life in Dublin Ireland’s capital city.  The city is famous for its beautiful Georgian architecture and is a historical and contemporary cultural center for the island of Ireland. Dublin is also a modern centre of education, the arts, science and industry.

The Summer School will consist of a variety of field trips, interactive workshops and social activities.  Students will be given the opportunity to experience the rich and exciting history and culture of Ireland through visits to many of Dublin’s most popular museums and tourist attractions.

Students will also be encouraged to experience life outside Dublin and will participate in numerous field trips such as to one of Ireland’s most famous historical neolithic tomb sites at Newgrange and also the spectacular scenic Glendalough valley in Co. Wicklow.

The fully inclusive cost of the program is €1,900 (approx USD $2,450).  

This fee includes airport transfers (flight not included), tuition, on campus housing, all meals, field trips and daily and weekend sporting, cultural activities and entertainment.  Students can avail of a discount of €150 if they apply before February 15th 2012 with the final application deadline on May 1st 2012.
