Loyalist organizer Willie Frazer has said that he has organized a protest at Leinster House in Dublin for this Saturday. The protest is part of the ongoing demonstrations in and around Belfast regarding the limitation of the flying of the Union Jack over Belfast’s City Hall.

RTE reports that Frazer, a native of Armagh, said he expects about 150 people for the demonstration in Dublin on Saturday. He has also said he expects it to remain peaceful, and has informed gardai of his plans.

Frazer was behind the organizing of an Orange Order parade in Dublin in 2006 which ultimately ended in a riot.

The protest scheduled for this weekend in Dublin coincides with the growing tension of the demonstrations in and around Belfast.

On Thursday night, ten police officers were injured when they were attacked by a mob of loyalist protesters in Belfast, reports RTE. A road was blocked by a burning car in the Templemore Avenue area also on Thursday, and hooded and masked gangs threw bricks, bottles and petrol bombs at officers.

SDLP spokesperson on policing and MLA Conall McDevitt has called for police in Northern Ireland to be firmer in their dealings will illegal protests.

Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, McDevitt also accused unionist politicians of doing a "u-turn" on the issue of flying the union flag, and questioned whether they were stoking political tension for political purposes.
