A traveller father and his two sons appeared in court charged with slavery offenses at Cwmbran Magistrates' Court in Gwent , Wales on Thursday.

Daniel Doran (66) and his sons David Dan Doran (41) and Thomas Anthony Doran (36) have been accused of false imprisonment between April 10, 2000 and March 1, 2013. Thomas Doran has also been charged with kidnapping.

The three men are also accused of conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced labor between April 6, 2010 and March 1, 2013.

The men were among four arrested on Monday after a dawn raid on a farm on the outskirts of Newport.

The charges relate to Darrell Simester, from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, who disappeared 13 years ago while on holiday in the south Wales resort of Porthcawl. He was found living in poor conditions at Cariad Farm, a Traveller site in Gwent this past summer.

Speaking about the decision to charge the three family members, Catrin Evans, head of the complex casework unit at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Cymru-Wales, said: "I have now carried out a review of the evidence gathered by Gwent Police in relation to three of these suspects. My review has been carried out under the threshold test of the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

"My conclusion is that there is sufficient evidence to charge Thomas Doran, Daniel Doran, and David Daniel Doran with false imprisonment, conspiracy to hold a person in servitude and conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labor.

"In addition, there is sufficient evidence to charge Thomas Doran with kidnapping by fraud."

The trio is due back in Newport Crown Court on October 3.
