Samantha Lewthwaite, better known as the “White Widow,” was seen two weeks ago fleeing by camel to a training camp linked to Al Qaeda in Somalia. She is believed to be plotting new atrocities.
She is suspected of helping coordinate the Westgate Mall massacre in the Nairobi shopping mall in September that killed 67 people. It is suspected that afterwards she was transported over the Kenyan border to Somalia, where she has been spotted four times.
The last time was two weeks ago, and she was riding a camel into a snake-infested forest in Baidao. The training camp in the forest is run by terror groups linked to Al Qaeda. Colonel Yasin Hiro of the Somali National Army told The Mirror, “She has been moving by camel. We think she is in the camps. We hope the snakes and scorpions like her.”
It is believed that Lewthwaite, who is the widow of one of the 7/7 London bombers, has changed her appearance by losing 28 pounds, having plastic surgery, and changing her hair color.
The 29-year-old from Buckinghamshire traveled to Somalia after the mall massacre and then took a boat to a remote beach before continuing to a hide-out in Raas Kaambooni. She was next spotted in former terrorist stronghold Kismayo and then she continued to Barawe by speedboat. UN official Guled Mohamed said, “People in this very old Portuguese city are white skinned and blue eyed so she would blend well.” From there she was traveling to Baidao by camel when she last spotted.
Interpol issued an international arrest warrant after she was named one of the prime suspects in the mall massacre. She is also wanted in Kenya for ordering the killing of two radical Muslim clerics, two Protestant preachers and three others with links to Al Shabaab.
East Kenya police commander Aggrey Adoli said, “We believe she is involved in the recruitment of jihadists and propagation of Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda activities in the country with other like minded individuals. Once we apprehend Samantha Lewthwaite she’ll have a lot of questions to answer.”
He added, “She is without a doubt an incredible threat to national and international security. We are working round the clock to bring her in to stop her causing more carnage.”
