The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has announced that more than 50 objects from the three sites of the September 11 terrorist attacks will go on display 10 years after the tragic event.

US Congress has designated the museum as the official repository for 9/11 materials so they will be permanently preserved. The museum announced plans for the display to include airplane fragments, objects from the Pentagon offices and a door from a crushed Fire Department of New York truck.

The curator of the show says they plan to show the material on tables, not behind glass cases, in order to make the experience for the public more intimate.

The exhibition will run from September 3 to 11 in Washington.

In August, according to the New York Post reports, the museum will also host an online conference for K-12 educators. They plan to speak about teaching the history of September 11 in schools. This program is organized by the National September 11 Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial Fund and Flight 93 Memorial.

On July 26, the museum plans to co-host the forum “The Public Memory of Sept. 11” with the National Building Museum. This will include presentations by the directors of the Sept. 11 memorials at the Pentagon, in Pennsylvania and in New York City.
