Ireland is bracing itself for record heatwaves next weekend – after a temporary lull in the current good weather.

The national weather service Met Eireann is predicting a ‘double dip’ heat wave according to the Irish Independent.

The paper says a second sunny spell with soaring temperatures is expected to hit Ireland next weekend.

And while temperatures will drop slightly this weekend, the sun will continue to shine as Ireland takes to the beach.

Met Eireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly told the paper that temperatures were expected to cool slightly over the weekend but the country would still be bathed in sunshine.

Temperatures are expected to reach 73 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the south and south east. The west coast and northern regions will see a cooler front will move in, bringing temperatures down to between 62 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Forecaster Donnelly said: “It will still be pleasant weather, it will just be a little cooler at night and it will stay dry.

“The fair weather spell is set to continue through the foreseeable future, with temperatures above 68 degrees.”

Donnelly warned temperatures had not yet come close to smashing the record high of 91.94 degrees Fahrenheit noted at Kilkenny Castle on June 28, 1887.

She added: “It might come next week as Friday was the last day of the very hot weather but it could get record-breaking during the next spell.”

Temperatures hit 84 degrees in part of Ireland on Friday with best conditions for the weekend expected in Munster and south Connacht.
