Pro-life advocates gathered outside the Irish Consulate in LA on Monday, calling upon the Irish government to keep abortion illegal.

Demonstrators held a prayer vigil in front of the honorary Irish consulate on Beverly Blvd in LA on Monday afternoon.

One of the protest organizers, Rev. Mahoney, criticized the Irish government’s efforts to amend the country’s Irish abortion laws.

Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition said in a statement.

"Sadly, Taoiseach  Enda Kenny has not only broken his word and public trust by attempting to legislate abortion into Ireland after promising not to do so, he is also crushing the rich tradition that Ireland has had through the centuries of being a nation that has embraced and honored their children.

"We call upon the Irish government to stand for human rights and justice for all and keep Ireland abortion free. We pray that Ireland learns from the mistakes that America has made regarding abortion and never allows the violence of abortion on Irish soil."

On June 7 a group of demonstrators protested at the Irish Embassy in Washington DC. Students for Life of America led the pro-life demonstration at Massachusetts Avenue in the nation’s capitol.

Meanwhile a poll of 1,000 adults, sponsored by the Life Institute and Family & Life showed that  86 per cent of voters would prefer to see the abortion issue resolved by a referendum than by political leaders in Leinster House.
