Joan Burton has been named as the leaders of the Irish political party, Labour, after tallies confirmed that three out of four Labour voters backed her. An official announcement will be made later today.

The former Minister for Social Protection Burton will be officially decreed the Party’s leader while it is believed that junior Transport Minister Alan Kelly will be named as the deputy leader. A formal announcement will be made at the Mansion House, on Dawson Street, in Dublin, on Friday evening.

Burton is expected to quickly turn her focus to the pending cabinet reshuffle. She is expected to speak with government leader, Fine Gael’s Enda Kenny before the weekend.

The newly elected leader has not ruled out that a senator may be handed a ministerial position. It is rumored that Senator Ivana Bacik could be the potential candidate.

Labour Party politicians are adamant that she concentrate on rebuilding the party from a grassroots level.

A result in that contest is expected at around 5.30pm Irish time.
