Hillary Clinton launched her official campaign in Roosevelt Island New York yesterday, but her fans in Ireland stole a march by announcing their support earlier in the day.

The Clintons have always enjoyed massive support in Ireland because of the role they played in the Irish peace process. Both have also been frequent visitors to Ireland over the years and there are hopes of a visit by one or the other before the 2016 election.

The Irish Democrats for Clinton gathered in the home of Brian Farren and Linda O’Shea Farren in Ballsbridge for breakfast on Saturday 13th June 2015.

Speaking at the event, prominent Irish American supporter Brian O’Dwyer commented, “Ireland is very important to Hillary Clinton and the purpose of this breakfast is to let Hillary know we are right behind her.” Linda O'Shea Farren added,

''The Clintons have always been great friends to Ireland, and we want Hillary to know that she can count on our support again''

Following the breakfast in Dublin, a second event was held in New York hosted by Stella O’Leary head of Irish American Democrats at the Pig ‘N Whistle in Manhattan. Major irish fundraisers are planned for the coming year culminating in a large irish presence at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia in July 2016 if as expected, Clinton is the nominee.
