Friends of Sinn Fein has now raised more than $10million for the party according to new figures filed with the US Department of Justice.

Donations and other income from American benefactors totalled $359,023 in the six months to April 2014, according to a report in the Irish Times.

The paper reports that the organization has now raised well over $10million since its inception in 1995.

The six month figure to April is the highest amount raised by the party’s US division in a six-month period since 2012.

As Sinn Fein's popularity has grown at home in Ireland – it was the most popular party in the latest opinion polls – donations have increased in the States.

The paper says that many of the donors work in building and related industries.

The largest individual amount raised was $20,000 from a construction company called United Structural Works, a structural steel manufacturer and erector in Congers, NY.

Eurotech Construction Corp and Great Lakes Region Organizing Committee, a labor union based in Chicago, both donated $10,000.

Other donors included Safway Atlantic, the New Jersey scaffolding company where former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive David Drumm works as a consultant. The company donated $5,000.

Sums of $5,000 were also received from Park Avenue Building & Roofing Supplies in Brooklyn, NY; Icon Interiors in New York and McGuigan Tombs & Company in Manasquan, NJ.

The filing includes donations for as little as $10 sent by direct mail from across the United States.

Donors were located in Texas, Florida, California and Washington.

Friends of Sinn Fein said in the filing: “All money received is for the purposes of supporting the activities and purposes of Sinn Fein as a democratic political party engaged in Ireland and in many countries throughout the world in promoting the Irish peace process by social welfare, political and educational activities.

“The receipts include check donations, early payment discounts and miscellaneous revenue.”

The funds raised were deposited in four bank accounts in New York, according to the filing.

The department of justice filing is signed off by Friends of Sinn Fein president James Cullen and secretary Gerard Keogh.
